At our last District Committee Meeting, we asked GSRs to gather some information about their groups so we can tell you a bit about them. This is the first of many posts to inform and inspire you to visit meetings you’ve never attended. After all, we have over 100 meetings each week in the Greensboro area!
BEGINNERS AND WINNERS meets Tuesdays and Fridays at Summit Fellowship Club → at 8PM. The group was formed in June of 2009 by quite a few people, many of whom are Fellowship Hall alumni and/or are involved with the Hall. It’s a moderated discussion/speaker meeting with typical attendance of 30-80 people.
On the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, questions are provided by the Fellowship Hall guests, like Sunday mornings at the Hall. On the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, the moderator picks a passage from the first five chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous to open the discussion. On Fridays, a speaker talks for 20-30 minutes and then attendees share about how they identify with the speaker’s story. The meetings are held in SFC’s Big Room, where there are about 100 comfortably cushioned chairs, a fireplace and ceiling fans, as well as the other amenities of the club.
When asked to share something special about this group, their GSR said, “I haven’t seen our formats at any other meetings in the area. Our home group members are very dedicated, involved and fun to be around. This meeting truly allows us to work with/help the newcomer, especially those in treatment.”
